The Role of Education in Mitigating Discrimination against the LGBTI Community

Discrimination based on sexual diversity can be understood as those harmful and unfair attitudes and behaviors directed towards individuals or groups based on their gender identity or sexual orientation. The present article addresses the situation of discrimination against the LGBTI population in Colombia and Latin America through a documentary review of 23 scientific articles extracted from electronic databases, published between the years 2015 and 2022, to analyze the current circumstances that impact this community in the educational sphere. The findings highlighted how discrimination manifests in various forms against this population and how the lack of inclusive policies and about sexual diversity contributes to this problem while emphasizing the importance of educational institutions in promoting inclusion and respect for sexual and gender diversity.

The school and the armed conflict in Colombia

School plays a crucial role in the intellectual and emotional development of children and young people in Colombia, promoting the skills and knowledge they will need in their future lives. However, in contexts of armed conflict, educational institutions are greatly affected, becoming spaces of extreme vulnerability and essential opportunities for rehabilitation and repair. This article analyzes, through the review of 21 publications including theses, degree works and scientific articles, organized in four categories of analysis, the impact of said conflicts on the educational system, emphasizing the need for curricular adaptation and strengthening and the Education as a tool towards building a more peaceful and equitable society. It is concluded that education is crucial in the transformation of children affected by the conflict, and the implementation of reparations and psycho-social care are essential for their full development.

Metacognition and its impact on improvement of reading comprehension

This article offers a quantitative systematic review of an analytical type and documentary design that aims to analyze the impact of some studies on the application of didactic and metacognitive strategies on learners. The analysis unit comprised 20 research works, including articles and postgraduate theses, in which the study sample involved primary and secondary schoolchildren from educational institutions in Latin American countries such as Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Chile and Brazil. All of the studies showed the positive effects (in educational practice) of developing skills in learners that allow them to reflect and manage their learning, after applying pedagogical and metacognitive strategies in classroom workshops aimed at improving reading comprehension levels: literal, inferential and critical level.

Reading comprehension and fluency in basic elementary students

Reading comprehension is recognizing and specifying the literal meanings of words in a text. This article aimed to identify the difficulties presented in reading comprehension by first-grade students of the Bertha Gedeón de Baladí educational institution. A field design with a quantitative methodology was used, in which the initial diagnostic reading test EGRA (Early Grade Reading Assessment) was applied to 109 students. Among the results, deficiencies were observed in recognizing letters, identifying the initial sound and decoding words, in fluency and comprehension of texts. It was concluded that recognizing deficiencies is the first step towards specialized attention and implementing additional pedagogical strategies adapted to individual needs to improve reading comprehension in this group of students.

Exploring primary school coexistence: perspectives and interpretation in action

School coexistence is essential for the comprehensive development of students, as it affects their emotional well-being, academic performance and civic development. The purpose of the study was to strengthen school co-existence and conflict resolution through pedagogical strategies. The methodology used was the qualitative approach, using the type of action research, with an interpretive design, data was collected with techniques such as participant observation and field diary. The sample was made up of thirty-seven (37) primary school students from the seven-teen campuses attached to the Liceo De West Educational Institution in the municipality of La Celia Risaralda. The results showed the design of training strategies for peace managers implementing Research as a pedagogical strategy for attitude change. In conclusion, it is appropriate and necessary to conduct inspection and monitoring activities of the process to develop cooperation in the field of quality education.

Technology and electronic devices in the classroom

Information and Communication Technologies are immersed in today's dynamic and transforming times, in this context it is foreseeable that they will have a significant impact on education, only by recognizing and integrating these new resources to the daily work, it will be possible to impact the future of students obtaining favorable results. This article focuses on how learning with electronic devices and digital culture are being implemented in educational institutions in La Guajira, Colombia. Positivist study that used descriptive statistical analysis with a non-experimental, transectional, descriptive field design. The results show that they use the devices more for entertainment than for academic use. It is proposed to implement a series of strategies and tools offered by e-learning and digital culture, which stimulate students to learn through technology in the space and time required by it as a support in their learning process.

Democratic participation of students, directors and teachers in El Divino Salvador Urban School

The democratic participation exercised by the school government guarantees the proper functioning of educational institutions since the participatory work of the educational community members favors the design of collaborative projects that favor student learning. The objective of this study was to describe the state of democratic participation of students, directors and teachers of the urban school El Divino Salvador in the municipality of Sincelejo, department of Sucre, Colombia. Regarding the methodological aspects, the research was framed within the quantitative paradigm, it was descriptive, with a non-experimental design. To obtain the information, questionnaires were applied to 64 subjects (students, teachers and directors). The result of the data allowed the generation of guidelines that could increase democratic participation, so it is concluded that the state of democratic participation in the school under study is not adequate and it is suggested to apply the proposed corrective measures.

Quality of secondary education oriented from the Educability and Teachability

The research purpose was to relate the pedagogical principles of Educability and Teachability as quality indicators in secondary education, not limited to the results of the Saber 11° tests and postgraduate teacher training. Carried out in the Institución Educativa Normal Superior Montes de María, Bolívar, Colombia, with a quantitative approach, a population of 64 teachers and 924 students. The sample was 138 people (13 teachers and 125 students). The dimension pedagogical practices, the variables educability, teachability and quality of secondary education were assumed, using questionnaires and Likert scales. The results revealed a proportional relationship between quality of education, educability and teachability, indicating that educational quality is not limited to standardized tests or teacher training. It was concluded that the quality of secondary education is related to educability and teachability oriented to pedagogical practices, while standardized tests are insufficient to measure it.

Educational environmental management plan for the conservation and development of sustainable tourism

he Las Dalias Nature Reserve in the municipality of La Montañita in the department of Caquetá, Colombia, is a biodiverse area used for tourism and livestock development, however, according to what was observed, many people who visit it do not seem to have an environmental awareness, therefore, a pedagogical ecological management plan was developed as a research product, to implement processes related to environmental education. A mixed approach, an action research method was used in this research. Observation, surveys and participatory activities were used, both with locals and tourists, characterized by the use of resources and group activities to strengthen both theoretical and practical knowledge about environmental care. As for the results, although the participants were indifferent at the beginning, as the implementation of the environmental management plan progressed, the change in attitudes and the development of ecological awareness in the benefit of these resources and the natural context was achieved.

Pedagogical strategy to strengthen reading and writing skills in first grade students

The objective of this research was to strengthen the reading and writing processes of first-grade students of the educational institution El Pórtico de Río Negro Santander through the design of a pedagogical strategy mediated by ICT, based on the use of vowels, consonants, syllables, fables and short stories. The methodology was worked with a mixed descriptive approach where through surveys applied to students and teachers of the first grade of primary school, results were obtained that showed the progress they had in improving reading, fluency in pronunciation and identification of words and short phrases that contributed to improving reading and reduced the shortcomings in writing, which promote knowledge and are fundamental in the performance of other learning areas, improving academic performance and quality of life.

Education in values in a society of permanent change

The objective of the research was to make visible the impact that value-based education generates on students in primary school and the achievement of a significant change in their behavior, based on the acceptance and implementation of these, which point towards educational practice in values as a basic tool to improve disciplinary behaviors in the classroom. The quantitative approach and technique of observation and survey were used, with the inductive-deductive method. A notable improvement was observed in the behavior of students who participated in values education programs. A decrease in disruptive behaviors, such as verbal and physical aggression, was evident. It is concluded that the research was a beginning for the teaching and learning process regarding education in values and to begin to see changes in the knowledge and practice of values.

Relationship communication skills and oral tradition

This research focused on studying the impact of oral tradition on reading and writing processes among sixth-grade students at the Institut Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, Pasto-Nariño-Colombia, within a quantitative paradigm, with a non-experimental design of correlational character; with two variables, the independent variable: the use of oral tradition and the dependent variable: improvement in reading and writing processes. The data were obtained from a purposive sample of 65 students and were interpreted based on a comparative statistical analysis between the application of progressive complexity reading comprehension tests, the pre-test and the post-test. The results showed that thanks to oral tradition in course development, the second test improved by 2 points over the first, leading to the conclusion that oral tradition contributes to improving reading and writing.

Allelopathy: the sustainable route towards food safety

Allelopathy is defined as the direct influence of a chemical compound released by one plant on the development and growth of another. The purpose of this work was to achieve a paradigm shift, which would allow agricultural activity to be rescued as a socio-economic development strategy at the national level. regional, through the implementation of a sustainable garden applying biological control (allelopathy) developed with a participatory and innovative methodology. This research, with a qualitative approach, used techniques such as direct observation and interview that revealed a significant food deficit in some families, caused by cultural uprooting towards good agricultural practices. Finally, an attitudinal (paradigm) and procedural (habits) change was achieved regarding food sustainability, allelopathy and the SDG as a transition route towards sustainable development.

Incidence of citizen and emotional competencies as generating axes of a culture of peace

This article emerges from the socio-educational reality of Latin America; where Colombia occupies the disgraceful first places in violence and social disintegration, largely determined by the internal armed conflict that has been going on for more than 60 years, causing various problems of a social, political, economic, cultural and educational nature. The latter is notably permeated by violence, causing situations with a socio-emotional background, affecting school coexistence and academic performance. The present study aims to analyze the influence of citizens and emotional competencies as axes that generate a culture of peace. This documentary-type research reviewed a total of 20 articles grouped into the categories: Emotional Competencies, Citizenship, Culture of Peace and Curriculum. The obtained findings highlight the necessary incorporation of these competencies into the curriculum. It is concluded that it is necessary to address citizen and emotional competencies as an educational policy to generate a true Culture of Peace in the Latin American context.

Alternatives towards the production of essays from a pedagogical vision in the academic field

This study presents an advance of ongoing research, whose purpose is to generate alternatives for the production of essays from a pedagogical vision in the academic field of the Monseñor Arias Blanco University Institute (IUP-MA). This intention arises from the need for specific training around the writing process. The purpose is to optimize mastery in the creation of essay texts, under the theory of Discourse Genres (GD) by Bakhtin (1998). The methodology will correspond to Participatory Action Research in the phases of: diagnosis, planning, execution-reflection and evaluation, from the socio-critical vision leading to changes in social and educational praxis. The application of the aforementioned phases implies permanent resizing, reorientation or rethinking of actions based on executed reflections. Regarding the diagnosis, actors involved in the IUPMA educational scenario will participate, who will provide requirements regarding the production of essays.
