Abstract

This study analyzes the level of knowledge that teachers at the Guayabales rural school have about technological tools and artificial intelligence (AI), considering the current challenges facing teaching in rural areas. Through a quantitative and descriptive method, a questionnaire was conducted that helped gather data on the use of digital resources and teachers' skills in using them; as well as teachers' desire and willingness to receive training in these topics. The results indicate a limited use of AI technologies in teaching, which is consistent with Cabero-Almenara and Llorente-Cejudo (2020), who highlight that the digital divide in rural areas depends not only on technology but also on the lack of teacher training. However, a great interest among teachers in receiving training was noted, which supports what García-Peñalvo (2021) stated, who emphasizes that a positive attitude and openness to change are key to successfully integrating AI in schools. Consequently, research provides real-world data for creating tailored educational strategies that take into account the specificities of rural environments and promote teacher training that fosters digital equality (UNESCO, 2022). Training in digital skills and knowledge about artificial intelligence is found to be vital for promoting inclusive, transformative, and relevant education in rural areas.
