Abstract

The connection between reading skills and problem-solving ability in secondary school students is an important issue, as both are essential for academic success. This essay-style article analyzes how reading comprehension affects problem-solving ability. Topics covered include reading as a comprehensive skill and the mental processes that overlap between reading comprehension and problem-solving. The main idea is that a higher level of reading proficiency leads to better problem-solving skills. The research results showed a significant relationship between reading comprehension and problem-solving performance. Students with good reading skills can clearly understand instructions, identify key information, and devise effective strategies, unlike those with poor reading comprehension, who faced more obstacles. These results highlight that reading deficiencies restrict the ability to reason and analyze when addressing problems. Educational methods are proposed to improve both skills: teaching activities that link reading comprehension with problem-solving in different subjects, teacher training in interdisciplinary approaches, and promoting critical reading habits. In short, strengthening reading skills has a positive impact on problem-solving ability, resulting in improved academic performance.
