ABSTRACT
The present study is a bibliographic analysis that examines the relationship between parental participation, motivation, and the academic success of students. Systematic-type interventions were carried out in studies conducted between the years 2020 and 2024, published in Latin American countries. Sources came from the databases Scopus, SciELO, Web of Science, Redalyc, and Google Scholar. The identified findings show that in the literature there is a clear conclusion: parental involvement is one of the pillars that determine school performance, motivation, and the confidence that students have in themselves. On the contrary, not being involved in the child’s school life leads to poor academic performance, lack of motivation, and socio-emotional problems.
In the review, it was proposed to identify how much has been studied on the topic, the scope of the investigations, and the problematic gaps regarding the object of study. For this bibliographic analysis, studies in which the sample had a small number of participants or an unequal distribution in relation to the manipulable variables were not excluded.
Finally, the study discusses that the link between family and school is one of the foundations for students’ educational success. If this relationship is strengthened, the academic results obtained by students are influenced and tend to improve. For this reason, it is extremely important that educational institutions design actions that, beyond generating spaces for parents’ attendance at the institution — such as report delivery, early warnings, or parent schools, among other parent meetings — focus on shared work and co-responsibility in the educational process.
