This study examines educational inequalities affecting children aged 5 to 14 in Ecuador, using microdata from the 2023 National Employment, Unemployment and Underemployment Survey (ENEMDU). Adopting a quantitative approach, chi-square tests (χ²) were applied to contrast area of residence (urban/rural) with school and socioeconomic variables: school attendance and schedule, type of institution, reasons for non-attendance, literacy, self-identified ethnicity, access to technological resources, child labour and poverty status. The results reveal statistically significant gaps that disadvantage rural children, expressed in higher non-attendance due to economic and work-related reasons, over-representation in agricultural labour, and greater exposure to poverty and extreme poverty. The findings suggest that guaranteeing the right to education requires territorially targeted and intercultural policies, articulated with social protection and the elimination of child labour, as well as early warning systems to prevent trajectories of exclusion
