The present research study aimed to analyze the perception of students from the Industrial University of Santander (UIS), the Minuto de Dios University Corporation (UNIMINUTO), and the University of Research and Development (UDI) regarding the inclusion of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in higher education in Colombia. The study followed a quantitative, descriptive, and non-experimental design, applying surveys to more than 1,400 students from different academic programs. Four main dimensions were explored: general perception of AI, risks associated with its use, implementation strategies in universities, and institutional regulatory policies. The results showed that most students believe AI improves learning quality (92.6%), enables fast access to information (74.8%), and supports the development of academic writing (64.6%). However, significant concerns also emerged: 85.1% identified risks related to plagiarism or excessive dependence, 61.7% mentioned a reduction in critical thinking, and 73.2% demanded stronger regulations on privacy and data protection. It can therefore be stated that the research reveals a duality: high acceptance of AI as an academic resource and, simultaneously, a critical awareness of its ethical and pedagogical risks. It is recommended that Colombian universities strengthen policies for responsible use, teacher training, and student participation in decision-making processes.
