Abstract

Mathematics education in rural areas faced significant challenges in the 21st century, linked to limitations in infrastructure, connectivity, and insufficient teacher training in the integration of digital tools. These shortcomings affected student motivation and academic performance in this subject area. This article analyzed, through a literature review, the impact of technology-mediated gamification on student motivation and academic outcomes in rural contexts. The methodology employed consisted of a conceptual analysis that allowed for the categorical organization of information, facilitating the identification of patterns, trends, structural barriers, and pedagogical innovations. The results indicated that the implementation of gamified strategies generated positive responses by increasing motivation and concentration, as well as reducing anxiety associated with learning the subject. It is concluded that digital gamification was an effective strategy for transforming mathematics learning in rural settings, provided that the interventions addressed the specific needs of the context and the particular characteristics of the student body.
