The article presents a systematic review on the role played by artificial intelligence (AI) as a mediator in contemporary educational processes. The objective of the study was to examine trends, pedagogical effects, methodologies, and issues related to the use of AI in education between 2020 and 2025. The PRISMA protocol was applied for the search and selection of information from academic databases such as Scopus, ERIC, Redalyc, Dialnet, and Google Scholar, using structured search strings. A total of 25 articles were selected based on inclusion criteria related to timeliness, thematic relevance, and methodological quality. The results show a growing use of AI to personalize learning, automate teachers’ tasks, and improve educational feedback. However, limitations are identified in teachers’ preparation, ethical frameworks, and equity of access to technologies. It is concluded that the implementation of AI in education requires critical, contextualized, and human-centered integration. Finally, the study suggests promoting teacher training programs, establishing inclusive educational policies, and ensuring the ethical and pedagogical use of artificial intelligence across different levels of the educational system.
