Abstract

Over time, historical events have consolidated inclusive education as a fundamental principle that allows teachers to re-signify their educational praxis on ethical, moral, and pedagogical foundations, recognizing diversity as the central axis of meaningful learning. The purpose of this article is to critically analyze teaching practices in relation to the barriers that limit inclusive education within educational institutions. Based on the contributions of authors such as Freire and his Pedagogy of the Oppressed, UNESCO’s inclusive policy framework, the WHO’s principles on health and education, as well as Nirje and Wolfensberger’s theory of normalization—and others such as Ainscow, Echeita, and Booth, who advocate for educational systems grounded in rights and free from exclusion—this work seeks to move inclusion from utopia toward a more tangible and comprehensive educational reality.

Beyond recognizing inclusion as an axis of social justice, this article calls for understanding inclusion as a poetic exercise of recognition, where the teacher assumes a transformative role directly linked to diversity and difference as starting points for creating possibilities and removing obstacles. It invites the teaching community to rethink their practice and to build educational environments where diversity is not merely tolerated but celebrated as a source of learning and shared humanity.
