PEDAGOGICAL MODEL FOR TEACHING STATISTICS IN THE VOCATIONAL TRAINING OF ENGINEERS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF LA GUAJIRA

Abstract

This research report-type article aims to assess the development of training processes within the university, which demands actions that respond to the demands of society. One of these is the training of engineers, which requires the commitment of teachers to achieve this process, which is so necessary for subsequent job performance. Thus, the general objective of this research was framed to specify a pedagogical model for teaching statistics in the professional training of engineers at the University of La Guajira. The methodology developed was quantitative in nature, using experimental research and a quasi-experimental design as a basis. A structured questionnaire was applied to 119 subjects made up of students and graduates of the university. The results indicate that the study sample views statistics as an essential element for professional development in engineering. Despite this, students do not adequately value it. Therefore, greater promotion of the area is required to incentivize future engineers. It was also found that pedagogical strategies in the area are rarely applied in classroom teaching. The conclusions emphasize the need to develop a pedagogical model that addresses the value of statistics within engineering training, as this is one of the essential foundations   for this field.
